Arte postal, ou Mail Art, é a porta de entrada para entender o que sustenta o projeto pensado por Marcelus Freitas - BA. Surgida na década de 60, no bojo do próprio movimento da arte conceitual, a arte postal é definida pela troca de obras entre artistas de diferentes partes do mundo, uma forma de intercâmbio artístico livre de curadoria rígida.
“O que me interessa na arte postal é a possibilidade de reunir artistas que dificilmente seriam vistos em uma mostra convencional, seja pela distância geográfica, sejam pelas restrições próprias ao circuito das artes. É uma maneira mais democrática”, comenta Marcelus.
Mail art, or Mail Art, is the gateway to understand what sustains the project thought by Marcelus Freitas - BA. Created in the 60th, in the midst of the movement itself of conceptual art, the art of correspondence is defined by the exchange of works between artists from different parts of the world, a form of free exchange of art curatorial rigid.

Em 'Arte em Trânsito', Marcelus, reuniu 31 artistas, 55 trabalhos (todos no formato de cartão postal). Para quem procura um fio condutor, desses que direcionam a mensagem, a exposição não pretende oferecer. Não há uma temática fixa, cada postal/obra passeia por um universo próprio. Também não há uma demarcação técnica – cada artista utilizou aquela que mais se assemelha ao seu processo de comunicação. Alguns são desenhados, grafitados, outros em nanquim, cera e aquarela. Mensagens políticas e humanitárias dividem espaço com postais que buscam apenas a razão estética.
In "Art in Transit", Marcelus, gathered 31 artists, 55 works (all in postcard format). For those looking for a thread, those that drive the message, the exhibition does not intend to offer. There is no fixed theme, each postal / work stroll in its own universe. Nor is there a demarcation technique - each artist used the one that most closely resembles the process of communication. Some are drawn, graffiti, some in ink, wax and watercolor. Political and humanitarian messages share space with items which seek only the aesthetic reason.

A intercessão entre as obras, no entanto, existe. A linha que baliza todos os artistas está no conceito à frente da exposição. A proposta de produzir o não-convencional, de trabalhar sem conceitos definidos é o que caracteriza não só o projeto, mas as próprias obras. “Cada artista ficou livre para enviar o seu material”, afirma Marcelus. E sobre a suposta seleção das obras (uma curadoria no sentido tradicional), o baiano brinca: “A curadoria ficou a cargo dos correios”.
